Position:         Assistant Store Manager

Reports to:     Store Manager

General Function

Assist the manager and direct store associates to achieve store sales and profit objectives and to maintain the facility.  Develop general store management and operational skills. 

Essential Responsibilities (other duties as assigned)

Operations Management

  • Work with Store Manager to develop and implement the Store's business plan, and all company programs and initiatives. Work with Store Manager to evaluate performance compared to plan and to benchmarks. Implement operational activities to control costs while driving the business.
  • Lead and direct all store operations activities including, but not limited to:  purchasing, receiving, inventory management, customer order management, sales floor recovery, out-of-stock review, and store organization and cleanliness.
  • Ensure merchandise, accurate price labels and signage are displayed in accordance with approved plan-o-grams.  Implement product display changeovers. 
  • Achieve and maintain "full-store" set standards (merchandising). 
  • Maintain inventory data accuracy (inventory management). Achieve inventory turn objectives while optimizing in-stock levels.
  • Ensure store is prepared daily for opening and closing, including thorough daily store recovery.  Stock inventory.
  • Conduct store evaluations, purchasing and receiving, and corporate reporting/paperwork timely and accurately.
  • Manage Special Orders process and Tech Center work including deposits, ordering, returns, customer notification and fulfillment.
  • Ensure obsolete and damaged inventory is minimized and RTV's are completed timely.
  • Manage and monitor execution of SLI Work Order form completion and filing (in WI).
  • Monitor and implement loss prevention initiatives to curtail losses.  Promptly advise management of any unusual activity (shrink control).
  • Manage core recovery and core charge compliance.  Manage recycling programs within policy and city, state and federal regulations.

 

Store Maintenance

  • Maintain proper safety-related items and equipment (baking soda, Personal Protective Equipment, etc.).  Monitor usage of first aid cabinet.  Follow and enforce all safety rules and regulations.
  • Oversee facility repair and maintenance issues.  Work with Store Manager and/or Corporate Stores Operations Manager to address problems.
  • Maintain appearance and uniform standards. Ensure cleaning, housekeeping, organization and maintenance responsibilities, both inside and outside the store meet company expectations.

 

Sales and Customer Service

  • Demonstrate and coach a "customer-first" mentality.
  • Support all commercial and retail sales strategies and initiatives. 
  • Support commercial lead generating activities and goals.
  • Execute and coach GAP ACT selling and add-on strategies.
  • Install batteries, perform testing and tech work.
  • Ensure deliveries are accurate and on time, or arrange deliveries via third party delivery companies.
  • ·         Provide store tours to introduce other products/services to customers.
  • ·         Must achieve selling expectations measured by lines per ticket and upselling metrics.

 

Supervisory Functions

  • Assist with selection and training of store associates.
  • Perform supervisory duties of store manager in the absence of store manager.
  • Delegate tasks, validate completion and ensure policies and procedures are being followed
  • Function as a leader by acting in an influential and persuasive manner.  At the same time, be a team player and individual contributor to attain company goals.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum H.S. diploma/equivalent and at least one year retail experience, preferably in a Batteries Plus store.
  • Ability to communicate concrete and abstract ideas and understand and communicate directions using both oral and written means.  Ability to make presentations to small groups of employees/customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal direction as a resourceful, independent problem solver.  Must be able to analyze fact and circumstances and make decisions within limits of standard or accepted practices.
  • Ability to perform simple math calculations such as addition, multiplication, percentages.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in multiple store locations.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business including peak seasons, special events, and have an awareness of how the store is operating in the manager's absence.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record preferred.  Required for driving positions.
  • Must be (or have ability to become) forklift certified, if applicable.

  • This position requires the employee to regularly stand, walk and use hands to handle or touch; frequently talk, hear and lift up to 50 pounds; and occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach above shoulders, and lift more than 50 pounds.
  • The position also requires the employee to occasionally use electrical cables, simple hand tools, a magnifying glass, spot welders, automotive and electronic testing equipment, and a company automobile.
  • While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee will occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions and the risk of electrical shock. The level of noise in the working environment is moderate.
  • Protective clothing and/or equipment used in this position includes safety glasses, goggles, gloves, and steel-toed shoes.

Provide customers total solutions to their battery, bulb, and device repair problems while doing so in a courteous, professional and helpful manner.

Customer Service / Sales

 

  • Greet customers, determine needs and answer questions
  • Suggest sell add-on items, participate in retail store and commercial sales activities in order to achieve sales and profit goals
  • Ask questions to identify potential commercial customers
  • Operate computer/cash register to complete sales transactions with accuracy
  • Answer phones, ensuring messages are relayed
  • Assist in achieving retail and commercial sales initiatives
  • Watch for loss prevention issues and advise management of any unusual activities
  • Function as a team player doing whatever is necessary to help attain company goals
  • Demonstrate a customer-first mentality
  • Provide store tours to introduce other products/services to customers
  • Must achieve selling expectations measured by lines per ticket and upselling metrics

 

 

 

Merchandising / Inventory

 

  • Assist in all store operations responsibilities as assigned by Store Manager or Assistant Manager
  • Rotate and stock inventory
  • Load, unload, and deliver or arrange delivery of product to customers or via third party delivery companies
  • Organize daily recovery of displays to achieve full store appearance
  • Maintain retail shelf label pricing
  • Build displays; setting up & taking down shelves and fixtures
  • Prepare store for daily opening and closing including counting and reconciling register drawers
  • Maintain physical facility safety and appearance including: mowing lawn, removing snow, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors. Maintain restroom cleanliness
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations; wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

 

 

 

Technical

 

  • Install batteries, perform tests and tech work
  • Able to rebuild cordless drill batteries and other battery packs as needed
  • Repair cell phones, tablets, light fixtures and other devices as needed
  • Replace screens and other components on smart phones and tablets
  • Replace cords, sockets and other parts on lamps and light fixtures

 

Qualifications

 

  • H.S. diploma/equivalent and 6 months prior work experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Prior retail experience desired but not required
  • ·         Ability to gain quick and solid understanding of company's electronic retail and cross reference system; capable of adapting learning to incorporate new technology
  • ·         Ability to make minor decisions and use some judgment within standardized procedures
  • ·         Good listening and verbal communication skills with a customer focus; general knowledge of customer service policies/procedures
  • ·         Must possess and use organizational and analytical problem solving skills
  • ·         Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks to effectively prioritize, follow up, and meet deadlines with multiple tasks and projects
  • ·         Ability to calculate simple math, percentages, ratios and algebraic expressions and read gauges
  • ·         Demonstrated technical aptitude and or technical experience desired
